The World Database on Protected Areas (WDPA) is a joint project between the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), managed by UNEP-WCMC in Cambridge, UK. In collaboration with governments, non-governmental organizations, academia and industry, it is the only global database of marine and terrestrial protected areas. The classification of IUCN Management Category (Ia, Ib, II, III, IV, V or VI) adopted for national protected areas. For reporting on international protected areas the option of listing ‘Not Applicable’ is accepted. For national protected areas where an IUCN category has not been adopted ‘Not Reported’ can be listed. For more information IUCN Protected Areas Categories System. |
